Meet Cassie
And now welcome Cassie, who has come to Twin Squeaks to befriend Hallie, who has been living alone since her sister Liza passed away earlier this spring.
We adopted Cassie at the 2009 New England Gerbil Show. She comes from Sunset Starlet Gerbils and is Hallie’s niece.
Cassie is one of the friendliest gerbils I’ve known. She hops into my hand the way that Herman did as a pup. And she crawls up my arm and poses in my hand the way that Liza did. Cassie has her own unique personality, though. She’s very strong-willed yet still very gentle and sweet. She enjoys coming out of the tank to play. So much so, that when I put her back in the tank, she springs at the lid, wanting to come back out. :-D
Females take longer to introduce than males, so it will probably be two to four weeks before Hallie and Cassie are best buddies, but I’ll be posting updates on how the split-caging is going. We’ll start split-caging them as soon as we’re back home from the New England Gerbil Show. I’ll also add her to the Meet the Gerbils page soon.

Oh, she is so cute! Congrats on a beautiful new little gerbil!
My gerbils love their playtime outside the cage too. Would like to hear how the the introduction progresses.
So far, things are going well! At first, Cassie was a little aggressive at the divider, but within an hour, she settled down. They've built their nests close together. Cassie is sleeping right against the divider, and Hallie is about an inch or two away from the divider. Occasionally, they meet at the divider and touch noses. I'm hopeful that they'll warm up to each other over the next couple of weeks!
Sounds like they will be friends very soon. Im thinking about adopting 1 or 2 gerbils so would also have to do an introduction. I have 6 already so have to give this some consideration. In the meantime I will be visting them at the animal shelter and help to tame/handle them.
Cassie springs at the lid? :-) Does she do sommersaults? She looks adorable. :-)
Yes, she loves springing at the lid. BTW, Cassie sends love to her sister Sally. :)
Give Cassie a treat for me as a welcoming "gift" from me!
Kelly, I have a photo of Cassie springing at the lid when we were in Erie, PA. Until I buy a new hard drive this afternoon, I'm out of disk space to transfer it from my camera. But I'll send you a link as soon as I can get the video transferred. :)
