A Nice Photo Of Hope
Just had to share this photo of Hope. I took this picture this past weekend when Hope was out playing on the couch one morning. Hope is now over 3 years, 11 months old. I really like this photo of her, because not only can you see her age, but you can also see her incredibly sweet disposition. She might be the sweetest, friendliest gerbil I've ever known.
To give you an idea of how old Hope is, my friend Libby of Shawsheen River Gerbils has a formula for calculating a gerbil's age to relate it to human years. According to Libby, Hope just turned 98 years old (in gerbil years) on Sunday. I feel very fortunate for all of the time that I've had with Hope. She's really an incredible gerbil. :)

She is SO adorable! My gerbil Gabriella (who had pups) is not even a year left! I look forward to the years I have left with her and her pups!

AWW! I have two girl gerbils one is a nutmeg gerbil named oreo, and a red fox gerbil named sherbert! Oreo is very friendly, but sherbert is always scared and hides in her little home,do you have any tips for her to not be shy anymore?
How long have you had your gerbils? If you haven't had them for long, Sherbert is probably still getting used to her home and will probably get braver after she's been with you for a while.
If you've had Oreo and Sherbert for a while, it might just be a personality difference. Just like some people are a little bit shy, Sherbert might like to keep to herself more than Oreo does.
The best things that you can do to get gerbils out to play more is to give them fun things to do. Gerbils love to chew cardboard tubes (toilet paper tubes work great) and small cardboard boxes (like the size of boxes that instant oatmeal comes in). They also have a lot of fun with plain brown paper lunch sacks. Most gerbils like to dig inside of lunch sacks and chew on lunch sacks.
If you give Oreo and Sherbert some things like this to do, Sherbert will probably venture out of her house and help Oreo chew on the cardboard and lunch sacks. :)
