Gerbil Show Update
Hello, everyone! Greetings from the 2006 American Gerbil Society Midwest Show! This is probably the last lull before the day gets very busy.
I got a ride to the show with Michele from Double Star Kennels. I didn't bring any of my gerbils to the show this year, but Michele and Cory both brought quite a few gerbils (and an adorable pair of Michele's robo hamsters). The entire back of Michele's Jeep Liberty was stuffed with gerbils. I plan to get a photo of the Jeep after we load it for the return trip tomorrow. Sure, Michele and Cory might adopt out some of their gerbils, but I'm willing to bet at least one of us comes home with a few new gerbils. ;-D
Last night was busy. I helped with health inspections, and everyone started setting up their tables once their gerbils and supplies had been through inspections. There are a lot of gorgeous gerbils at this show. Quite a few pups that haven't been weaned yet, too. They're a lot of fun to watch.
I took several photos as people were setting up last night, you can see the pictures in my 2006 Midwest Show album.
If you're in the Springfield, Missouri area and want to come to the gerbil show today, there will be plenty of exhibits to see, supplies to buy, and gerbils to adopt. There will also be activities for kids at the show. The cost to attend is just $1, so consider stopping by the Oasis Inn & Convention Center.
Doors open to the public at 11:00 this morning, and judging starts at noon. At 1:00, the pet class begins. Any gerbil can compete in the pet class. There are also children's activities at this time. The show runs through 6:30 tonight, so even if you aren't showing a gerbil, consider stopping by! You can find more information on the AGS Midwest Show page.
I'm going to be judging at today's show, so I don't know how many chances I'll have to get photos, but I'm taking my camera and will get as many photos as I can. (If you stop by the show and catch me when I'm not busy, please say hi!)
A few other brief notes: We posted the results of last week's gerbil poll yesterday. And this morning, there's a new Gerbil Picture Of The Week. This week's photo comes from the gerbil show! If you have a gerbil picture you'd like to see on our Web site, please send it to us, and we'll be happy to use it.
I hope to post later today or tomorrow with more updates from the gerbil show, so stay tuned!
