Time To Take Samantha To The Vet
Last night, when I was giving Samantha some playtime, I noticed what appears to be a small growth on the very edge of the inside of her left ear. This is the first time I've ever encountered this with one of my gerbils. I did a little research online last night, and most of what I've found indicates that it is probably not dangerous unless she starts scratching and picking at it. Also, at her age (3 1/2 years), surgery to remove the growth may not be advisable.
At Sam's advanced age, occasional health issues like this don't surprise me. I'm fairly certain she's experienced some vision loss in the past six months, so she probably relies much more heavily on her hearing. I'll be taking her to the vet tomorrow to get a firm diagnosis about what's wrong with her ear and to make sure there isn't anything I should do for her.
I'll post on here tomorrow night and let everyone know what I find out about Sam's ear.
